Olin's big night not enough for Bulldogs

| February 6, 2009 8:00 PM

RATHDRUM — Senior Bryce Olin exploded for a season-high 22 points, including 5-7 shooting from beyond the arc, but a cold shooting fourth quarter proved costly as Sandpoint fell 58-53 to Lakeland in non-league boys basketball Thursday night at Lakeland High School.

“They (Lakeland) were trying to take away Spencer and Buratto,” said Bulldogs head coach Tyler Haynes. “They left Bryce open and he hit everything he got.”

Spencer Swerin added 16 points for the Bulldogs (5-11), who were outscored 33-19 in the second hald, and 17-8 in the fourth quarter after leading most of the game. Tanner French and Stefan Buratto, the Bulldogs’ two main scoring threats this season, were held to a combined two points in the loss.

“We led most of the game,” said Haynes, whose team has played even with nearly every team in the IEL in the first half of games. “We had a hard time finishing in the fourth quarter.”

Caleb Guerber scored 16 points to lead Lakeland (5-12), and was a big factor defensively on the Bulldogs’ guards.
