SANDPOINT — In the midst of the best indoor season of his career, Sandpoint native Brian Farber is beginning to generate some buzz as a possible Professional Arena Soccer League MVP this season.

Farber scored his team-leading 24th goal to help lead the Stockton Cougars (8-4) to a 7-6 win over Detroit on Sunday in Plymouth, Michigan. He also leads the PASL in goals this year, and with his team in second place overall, is beginning to be talked about as a potential league MVP.

“It’s cool they’re talking about it,” said Farber of the award, noting the season is still young. “They go off numbers. The team is winning and I’m leading the team.”

Farber scored five goals and tallied two assists in a game earlier this year, establishing a Cougars’ team record for total points in a match with six. One of the more popular players on the Cougars, he’ll be featured Feb. 26 during Brian Farber Bobblehead Doll Night at the Stockton Arena.

“They always joke that you know you’ve arrived when you get a bobblehead,” laughed Farber, who says a lot of hard work is beginning to pay off. “I work my tail off constantly, and it feels good to be worthy.”

After the indoor season ends, Farber will take his considerable speed and skills outdoors. He signed recently with the Portland Timbers of the United Soccer League, and will report April 1. He said he had a better offer from North Carolina, but wanted to stay closer to home. He plans to run another soccer camp for kids this summer in Sandpoint.

The Cougars host the Colorado Lightning on Thursday as the PASL season hits its stretch run.
