Starlight racers carve it up at Schweitzer

| February 10, 2009 8:00 PM

SANDPOINT — More than 70 competitors raced down Schweitzer’s NASTAR course last Friday, during the Starlight Race Series. Matt Gillis posted the fastest overall time at 18.07 seconds and team “Rusty Springs” is the team everyone will be chasing next week, as they sit in the top spot after week one.

The fastest female and fastest telemark skier was Suzanne Pattinson, 22.35 seconds, and Dave Sanborn had the best snowboard time, 22.68 seconds.

“I had a blast out there” said Schweitzer’s Marketing Manager Patrick Sande, who was all smiles after his race. “Everyone young in age and young at heart looked to be having a great time.”

Those who didn’t get enough racing on the slopes, or were in need of redemption, turned to the Nintendo Wii Skiing competition set up in Taps during the post-race party. Everyone enjoyed drink specials and prize giveaways while waiting for the race results to be announced.

Snow conditions for the race were excellent after the mountain was blanketed with fresh snow from the previous night.

This was the first night in the five night race series, which runs through March 6. If you missed out on race registration you can still join in on the after-party fun at Taps starting at 6 p.m.
