Broggi leads Cats past Warriors in pivotal win

| February 11, 2009 8:00 PM

HARRISON FLATS — Clark Fork senior Jared Broggi is an automatic double-double every night, using his 6-foot-5 frame and 270 pounds to do damage on the blocks. Tuesday night, he showed why he’s even more dangerous, stepping out and hitting a huge 3-pointer among his game-high 23 points to lead the Cats past Kootenai 61-58 in a pivotal North Star League overtime battle.

Pat Young added eight points and nine assists in the win, and Chaunce Nesbitt scored 10 while garnering high praise from his coach.

“The best game Chaunce has played all season; both shooting and defense,” explained Cats coach Melvin Speelmon. “I told him if he could score 10 we would win.”

Speelmon said it was easily the most intense game the Cats (5-12, 4-3 NSL) have played in all season, as neither team could build more than a five point lead, and both wanted to secure the No. 1 seed for districts. Chase Chowning and Stillman Berkley each added eight in a balanced scoring attack.

Jacob Zarpentine scored 13 points for Kootenai (4-12, 4-3), which plays host to Wallace on Tuesday.
