Bulldogs fall to Lake City
SANDPOINT — A torrent of 3-pointers to start the game helped No. 3 Lake City jump out to a 17-3 lead, which they parlayed into a 67-40 Inland Empire League win over Sandpoint Wednesday night at Les Rogers Court.
Jason Wheelock scored 14, Logan Frederickson 13 and Nate Frisbie 10 to lead a balanced Lake City (13-4, 6-2 IEL) offense, as the early outside shooting opened up the driving lanes.
“They (Lake City) came out burying their first five threes; that’s the best I’ve seen them play,” said Sandpoint head coach Tyler Haynes. “We had to call a time out and say ‘the game is 32 minutes.’”
Behind 14 points from Spencer Swerin and nine points and nine rebounds from Stefan Buratto, the Bulldogs (6-12, 1-8 IEL) were able to cut the deficit to six in the third quarter, before running out of gas.
Haynes was happy with the play of some of his bench players on Senior Night, including Jonas Cafferty, Talis Siegel and Zach Kuhl.
“I’m proud of the seniors;they played their guts out,” said Haynes, as his team prepares for the 4A districts. “It’s wide open and as evenly matched as I’ve seen in a while.”
Sandpoint is at Lewiston on Friday night.
