Mildred Viola Chambers, 87
Mildred Viola Chambers joined her beloved husband Charles Chambers in heaven on Feb. 8, 2009.
She was born Sept. 15, 1921, in Bow Slope, Canada, the second daughter of Carl and Alice Westman.
Her parents and two sisters, Bernice Molstad and Vivian Larson (deceased) later moved to Bryant, Wash., where Mildred attended school and later met and married Dell Delano (deceased) on Sept. 21, 1940.
Dell and Mildred raised their three daughters in Careywood, Idaho, where she was a leader of the Careywood Eager Beavers 4-H Club and was also involved in the Sew and Sew Club and the Westmond Grange.
It was at her home in Careywood that her protective grandmotherly instincts came out and she shot and killed a bear in her front yard where her grandchildren had been playing.
On Feb. 14, 1970, Mildred married Charles Chambers. They enjoyed fishing, hunting, attending church and camping together.
Mildred also liked to read, quilt, sew and cook.
Grandma was always ready to play a game of Skip Bo with anyone who would challenge her.
Mildred’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren always knew her candy dish would hold a treat for them.
Family was of utmost importance to Mildred and she treasured the time she could spend with her loved ones.
Mildred is survived by her sister, Bernice Molstad; her three daughters, Patsy Jean and Philip Barnhart of Careywood, Gerry Lee and Jim Carter of Medical Springs, Ore., and Trudy June and Paul Barnhart of Careywood. She has 13 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She also was blessed with many nieces and nephews. Mildred will be missed and memories of time spent with her will always be cherished.
A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at 9 a.m. at The Altar, located at Ninth and Best in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
