Vote no until excess is trimmed from budget

| February 13, 2009 8:00 PM

Isn’t it wonderful that the school levy, with an additional few million dollars, has the backing of the Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce?

The front-page Daily Bee scare tactic saying we will lose 21 percent of staff if it doesn’t pass is ridiculous.

We all know the district has more than 500 employees times maybe three “for votes,” and has the legal option of running the levy over and over again until the “no” voter assumes it won’t pass and fails to vote.

No matter what the legal school jargon is applied here, we all know this levy is a running budget item and will continue to need the levy forever.

We all know it will eventually pass and it should, but hopefully the voters will at least attempt to stop the few million dollar add-ons the school district seems to think it can’t operate without.

We have an excellent school system. Be happy with what we have.

Vote “no” until it is trimmed a few million dollars and then vote “yes.”
