Fio leads Sooners in rout
EAST LANSING, Mich. — Led by former Bulldog wrestler Joey Fio, the 12th ranked University of Oklahoma wrestling squad extended its non-conference win streak to 17 matches Sunday afternoon with a 21-8 pounding of the Spartans.
Ranked seventh nationally, Joey Fio collected his 12th-straight victory this season with a 9-5 decision over Eric Olanowski. Fio, who won two state titles while a nationally-ranked high school wrestler at Sandpoint, recorded three takedowns and a reversal in the 125-pound match.
The Sooners (16-3) return to Norman to prepare for the second installment of Bedlam next Sunday, in Stillwater, Okla., where they’ll attempt to win three straight against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, a feat last accomplished in 1981.
Oklahoma State’s Jared Rosholt, the No. 1 ranked heavyweight in the country and also a former Sandpoint wrestler, will also be in action.
