Activities provide another chance to learn, thrive
Thank you, Bonner County taxpayers. At the beginning of February, my son was in a drama production, “The Saga of the Prospector’s Daughter,” at SHS. I beamed with pride as my son performed along with his fellow cast members in this outstanding production.
I sincerely appreciate what a wonderful community we live in that allows, through local funding, our children a chance to grow and thrive in various learning opportunities such as this play.
Providing free public education to all school-age children is a costly undertaking and funding has proved difficult both to devise a system that fairly distributes the tax burden for supporting the schools and providing equal educational services, programs and facilities for all students. I understand the inequity, but realize this is the system we currently have that allows local control over our schools and the programs we offer to our children. We can never forget that education is a cornerstone of our community and an investment in our future.
There is a sacrifice we all feel in paying additional taxes and the current economic situation dictates everyone take a hard look at how they spend and invest their money. We must balance personal finances with public responsibility.
LPOSD is sensitive to the realities we all face. Fortunately, we have a fiscally responsible school board and administration who apply sound monetary spending.
I thank you for the quality education our community has produced and I ask you again to maintain that level by voting ‘yes’ on Feb. 24 for the educational replacement levy.
P.S. Don’t miss the Drama department’s production of “Beauty and the Beast” this spring.
