Change rules instead of spending money

| February 18, 2009 8:00 PM

The mood seems to be for spending money. For some reason I see it everywhere. As someone who attended a one-room school with eight grades and a high school graduate as a teacher I don’t think money has much to do with education. The quality of education was so poor that I had to attend postgraduate school without having had undergraduate school and I didn’t even have a course in English.

I would be more inclined to approve the levy if the approach was different. The state schools say the state rules are what costs so much. The state says the federal rules are what costs so much.

Nobody makes any effort to change the rules. All they do is put their hand out for more money. We, as a nation, spend more money for education than any other country in the world. We are losing ground, we rank somewhere in the 20s for best school system  in the world. Are we getting a lot for our money?  The staff personnel and the school buildings cost entirely more than they should. We can do a lot better by using our heads.
