We need to support replacement levy

| February 18, 2009 8:00 PM

A free public education for every citizen although necessary for free society to exist is not free.

It’s time again for us to pay for this important public service.

The upcoming levy is a replacement levy. The state of Idaho and the federal government do not provide enough funds to local Idaho school districts to carry out the mandates that both governmental bodies give to the public schools, nor enough to provide the quality education we want for and owe our children.

LPOSD board has been frugal and cut back on programs and teachers in recent years. More cuts would not only hurt our students but our local business community by adding to the unemployment problems in our area.

The Lake Pend Oreille School Board devised a levy that will not raise our current level of taxes and yet maintain funding for the essentials of education. “Education: a debt due from present generations to future generations.” ~ G. Peabody
