Student's success due to LPOSD education

| February 19, 2009 8:00 PM

I know that where I am today is because of the quality of instruction I received during my earlier years in Bonner County public schools. I am so grateful for my education that I will be teaching in a low-income school next year, in the effort to give every student the same opportunities I had, since limiting their opportunities in school means limiting their options for the future.

Having passionate teachers who truly care about their students’ successes is the key to ensuring that our students are prepared for their future in the “real world.” Besides dedicated teachers, the extracurricular activities I participated in completely shaped who I am today. However, if the supplemental levy does not pass, 100 teachers could lose their jobs and many extracurricular activities will be trimmed out of the budget. The impact these educators could have on students will be completely lost and, without extracurricular activities that allow students to shape their high school experience, much of what makes students thrive in school may also be irretrievably gone.

A “no” vote on Feb. 24 means taking a risk on students’ futures. In the present economic climate, it is more, not less, important to ensure that students have all the tools they need to be competitive in the job market. Passing this supplemental levy is an essential investment in our future as a community. Please vote yes for the future of our schools and our students.
