Vote 'yes' for kids

| February 20, 2009 8:00 PM

We have the chance Tuesday to go to the polls and do something right.  We have the opportunity to give our kids a well-rounded education, complete with technology and appropriate workbooks, as well as the opportunity to learn to debate, sing in the choir, play a sport, and in the process compete for scholarships in any of these areas.

It is unfortunate that our state does not choose to spend adequately for our schools, but that is simply a fact of life. We must then make up that difference. We love the life we are afforded here in northern Idaho.  As new people come into the community, one of the first questions they want to know is if the community supports its schools.  It speaks volumes to people if the community cares about the education of their children.

Is this a great or even a good time to vote for a new levy?  Probably not, what a difference we can make.  Our kids need us to speak for them.  Our teachers are doing a fantastic job, as evidenced by last year’s ISAT scores which were the highest ever in all subjects.  We can’t afford to lose the jobs of 100 good citizens, along with their families.

Our leadership can be trusted. An independent audit of our district finances has given the LPOSD the top mark for fiscal integrity three years in a row.

Please vote “yes” on Feb. 24.
