Foundation working to help improve fairgrounds

| February 21, 2009 8:00 PM

Recently it has come to my attention that there is confusion among the general public about the difference between the Bonner County Fair Foundation and the Bonner County Fair Board.

The Bonner County Fair Board is an entity of Bonner County and is responsible for managing the operation of the fairgrounds. There are three paid staff members at the fairgrounds who report to the Bonner County Commissioners. The fair board makes decisions regarding fairground events, policies, operations and maintenance.

The Bonner County Fair Foundation is a non-profit, 501 (C) 3 charitable organization founded in 2006. As a non-profit, all members are non-paid volunteers, who contribute their time and effort as a donation to the foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to raise funds to repair, maintain and upgrade the facilities at the fairgrounds for all citizens for Bonner County.

The foundation is seeking volunteers to help with our efforts. We currently have two board of directors’ positions available, and need volunteers to help with projects and fundraising. We meet the third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Ponderay branch of Panhandle State Bank. Our next meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 17 and would welcome the participation of new members. Please help your community and get involved. Your efforts will be greatly appreciated and hugely rewarded.
