Weight limits are looming

| February 21, 2009 8:00 PM

SANDPOINT — With the warmer weather comes the inevitable — the posting of weight restrictions on Bonner County roads.

The county Road & Bridge Department is recommending heavy equipment users and carriers get their equipment in place to avoid inconveniences when the road restrictions are imposed.

County officials say the implementation of the restrictions could be imminent and once they’re in place, there’s no way to predict which roads will be affected or how long they’ll be in force.

Restrictions will be posted on a road-by-road basis. Signs will be posted at the start of roads. Green and blue ribbon markers warn motorists the imposition of the weight limits could go into effect soon.

Red ribbons denote the imposition of weight limits. They remain in effect until further notice. If neither color indicator is in place, the limits remain in force, according to Road & Bridge.

Road restrictions are updated on weekdays by 2 p.m. They’re also posted on the Road & Bridge section of the county Web site (www.co.bonner.id.us) or by calling 255-5681 (after hours use prompt 7).
