SANDPOINT — Bonner General Hospital has named Charlene Godec, R.N. as the hospital’s chief nursing officer.

Godec brings more than 35 years of nursing expertise to the role, including more than 19 years of nursing leadership experience.

Godec joined Bonner General Hospital last May as unit nurse manager of the surgical services department.

Godec previously served as regional director of perioperative services at Franciscan Health System in Tacoma, Wash., where she led a team of 450 employees and was responsible for designing and directing clinical services for surgical patients in four hospitals and two ambulatory surgery centers.

Prior to joining Franciscan Health, Godec held progressive management roles at both large health systems and smaller community hospitals. In addition to her civilian nursing experience, Godec spent 26 years in the United States Army Reserve where she achieved the rank of colonel.

“Charlene is a versatile leader and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role of chief nursing officer,” said Sheryl Rickard, Bonner General Hospital CEO.

“During her tenure at Bonner General, she has demonstrated exceptional skills in creating solutions to operational challenges and improving both quality and financial outcomes. I am confident in her ability to help shape the future of our hospital.”

For her part, Godec welcomes the opportunity to impact the local healthcare landscape.

“Bonner General Hospital plays a vital role in our community. I have been truly impressed by the hospital staff’s commitment to excellence in patient care, and I look forward to carrying those standards of excellence forward as we work to ensure the continued availability of the hospital’s services. I am excited by the work that lies ahead.”

Godec also said how pleased she is to be living and working in Sandpoint.

“My husband and I have family here and visited this area regularly for nearly 20 years before moving here last year. Like so many others, we just fell in love with the community and have thoroughly enjoyed the quality of life and recreational offerings of North Idaho.”

As chief nursing officer, Godec will be responsible for overseeing all nursing operations and enhancing the quality of care provided to the patients at Bonner General Hospital.

Godec earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Bemidji State University in Bemidji, Minn., and she is completing a master of arts degree in organizational management at Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn.

Bonner General Hospital is a not-for-profit, acute care hospital licensed for 48 beds. The hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and is a member of the Voluntary Hospital Association of America.
