Green Owl location is poor choice

| January 5, 2009 8:00 PM

I am one of many landowners who live adjacent to the property in the 1200 block of Peninsula Road, recently purchased by Bonner County as a new location for the so-called "Green Owl" public dump site. Our neighborhood would be severely affected by this project, and we need community support to prevent this from happening.

Placing this facility in our quiet residential area would amount to having an industrial site in our neighborhood, with all of the attendant risks and impact associated with industrial activity. Locating this project in our area is also clearly unnecessary, since there are abundant public lands in the area which would be suitable for this project, and which are not directly adjacent to any residential neighborhood.

Our hope is that by encouraging the community to help support our position, the county will reconsider their plans to locate the dump site in our neighborhood, in favor of a more appropriate location elsewhere. Please help us preserve our quality of life by contacting: Bonner County commissioners, (208) 265-1438.
