Moose Madness ensues Saturday

| January 14, 2009 8:00 PM

SANDPOINT - The first-ever Moose Madness Spirit Basketball contest will be waged when the Sandpoint boys and girls basketball teams head north to face their 3A rivals in Bonners Ferry.

The schools will also be waging a friendly battle in spirit contests including a cheerleader competition, a dance team competition, a battle of the bands, best sportsmanship, a poster contest, cheer intensity (measured by a decibel meter), a moose calling contest, and even a blindfolded moose drawing contest.

The gymnasium will be split in half, as each side will be judged on everything right down to which boasts the most team color. At half time of the second game a winner will be declared and given a trophy of moose antlers painted in each school's colors.

SHS athletic director Cheryl Klein is hoping Sandpoint can fill their half of the stadium, which is more than 400 people. Tickets are being pre-sold at SHS during school hours today and Friday, and cost $5. All of the proceeds raised from the event will be donated to Head Start.

The girls game tips off at 6 p.m., and the boys game is slated for 7:30.
