Chamber honors POAC as December's top business

SANDPOINT -  Pend Oreille Arts Council, a nonprofit organization which facilitates and presents experiences in the arts for the people of northern Idaho, was honored by the Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce as business of the month for their contributions to make this a better place to live and work.

Sandpoint is known for its thriving arts and music scene, and POAC was a natural fit.  Starting in 1978, POAC began with a handful of concerts and a few art exhibits and has flourished into an organization offering performing arts and visual arts programs, educational outreach activities, and arts advocacy efforts.

POAC provides the greater Sandpoint area with school-related programs reaching more than 4,600 students each year, host the annual Arts & Crafts Fair featuring 37 artisans from around the Pacific Northwest, offer a series of scheduled gallery openings at the POAC Powerhouse Gallery and art exhibits at rotating public venues, organize Artwalk I and II, coordinate Summer Sounds at Park Place and Sunday Concerts on the Lawn, and provide the acclaimed annual Performance Series for the best in theatre, music and dance.

The council's success in offering such a wide range of events and programs is due to the diligence of a 15-member "working board," an army of more than 250 dedicated volunteers, and the support of major contributors and members.

The Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce is pleased to recognize POAC for its contributions to provide fine quality art experiences. To learn more about POAC, call (208) 263-6139 or visit www.ArtInSandpoint.org.
