Trojan girls run past Sandpoint

| January 15, 2009 8:00 PM

SANDPOINT - Jordan Shoening dropped in a game-high 19 points, including three daggers from beyond the arc, to lead Post Falls to a comfortable 53-16 win over Sandpoint in IEL girls action Thursday night at Les Rogers Court.

Katelyn Loper added 12 for the Trojans (12-4, 6-1 IEL), who held the Bulldogs to six second half points.

Freshman guard Alex Bucholtz tallied six points and two steals for Sandpoint (1-13, 0-6 IEL), and also played some solid man-to-man defense on the Trojans' dangerous guards.

"Our defensive effort overall was there," said Sandpoint coach Lance Bruce of his young team. "We stayed positive and kept playing hard."

The Bulldogs played much of the second half without the services of their best player in Christina Johnson. She injured her hip and had to leave the game, and her status for Saturday's Moose Madness game in Bonners Ferry is unknown.
