Relay race to raise funds for research
SANDPOINT - On Jan. 30 and 31, Schweitzer Mountain Resort and Coldwater Creek are co-sponsoring a relay race event called "24 Hours of Schweitzer" to raise money for cystinosis research.
All money raised during the event will go to the Cystinosis Research Foundation, which is seeking a cure for the disease. A local toddler named Henry Sturgis is one of only 2,000 children worldwide who has the life-threatening metabolic disorder.
"24 Hours of Schweitzer" - a team relay for skiers, telemark skiers and snowboarders - will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, and end at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31. Three intermediate/beginner runs and lifts will be used for the event, which has categories for solo racers, as well as two-, three- and four-member teams.
The entry fee is $125 per person, including a team pit area, event t-shirt, four meals and Saturday night awards dinner. Registration is limited to 250 racers.
