A 'no' vote is a vote for higher property taxes

| January 30, 2009 8:00 PM

Yes, I know we are all concerned about the economy. And local property owners are concerned about property values declining. I certainly am concerned. That is one good reason why the levy must be approved.

Ask any good real estate professional what factors affect the value of homes, or what to look for in choosing a good home, and one major criterion is this: "Is this home in a good school district?" The value of a home is directly affected by the quality of schools. It is affected by the number of students in classrooms, by the quality of the teachers, and even whether there are excellent activities like music programs for the students.

The quality of a school district also affects the ability of employers to attract good employees. Human resource people will tell you that they can bring good executives and employees only if the schools are good for the education of their children. Good candidates get lost when schools do not measure up.

I suggest this - anyone who votes "no" on the supplemental levy is voting for property values to continue their decline and voting to deny employers the ability to hire good people.

Please vote "yes."
