Bulldogs girls fall short against Moscow

| January 30, 2009 8:00 PM

SANDPOINT — In easily their best performance of the season, the Bulldog girls played an inspired second half of basketball, nearly taking down 4A rival Moscow in IEL action Friday night at Les Rogers Court.

Down 31-21 at half time, the Bulldogs (2-18, 0-10 IEL) scored the first nine points of the second half en route to a 15-5 third quarter edge over the surprised Bears (4-13, 2-8 IEL). Christina Johnson led Sandpoint with 15 points, and Charissa Chatburn added nine, including three bombs from beyond the arc.

Moscow freshman Abi Quinnett was ultimately the difference in the games, scoring 23 points to go along with numerous steals and blocks, providing an answer every time Sandpoint made a run.

Sandpoint showed how far it’s come in an explosive third quarter, with Natasha Roop hitting the first and last buckets, Chatburn hitting a three, Johnson making a three-point play, Alex Bucholtz adding a steal and lay in and Jenny Thomas hitting a running scoop shot.

It was Senior Night for Jenny Thomas and Nicole Adams, the two lone seniors on the team. Thomas scored five points in her final home game.

The Bulldogs open up the district tournament on Tuesday.
