Current system is broken, needs repair
I hope everybody read Bob Gunter’s column on June 27. The comments about the Canadian health care system mirror the experience of my Canadian relatives.
Those who call it “socialized medicine” cannot wait to be eligible for Medicare. Surely we trust our elected representatives as much or more than we trust for-profit insurance company executives.
“Single payer” (government) does not mean we cannot choose our health care providers or facilities. It does mean simplification of the tremendous paperwork for doctors, hospitals and patients.
We do not have to copy Canada. I have read that France has the best system. At any rate, the one we have here now is not successful, as evidenced by our statistics.
Of course, there are sometimes glitches in any system, but for millions of Americans, Medicare has worked very well.
