SISNA bike series returns

| July 9, 2009 9:00 PM

ATHOL — The 9th season of the SISNA Mountain Bike Series kicked off Wednesday at Farragut State Park’s Thimbleberry Campground, with 75 riders cranking out the 12.6 mile single trap loop in the first installment of the popular racing series.

After the lap, big smiles and compliments on a great trail layout were seen and heard around the Pend Oreille Pedalers fundraiser barbecue and rider raffle. Hal Schmidt was awarded a special tire inflation tool to help him with his next tire repair.

While many, if not most, are participating to see improvements in the own times over the four week series, Erika Krumpelman and Jamey Yanik stormed around the course setting marks for others to shoot for.

Seven happy and excited kids rode in the free Eichardt’s Kids Ride, they followed ride promoter and outfitter Ken Barrett, of All About Adventures. Barrett says the kids lend the event a family-friendly atmosphere and are a pleasure to be involved with. After the kids finished their lap they chose a free bike-related gift.

The SISNA course remians posted at the park and everyone is encouraged to try it at anytime and then come out on Wednesday evenings, July15, 22, and the 29.
