All-Stars fall to Lewiston

| July 15, 2009 9:00 PM

LEWISTON — The Panhandle Babe Ruth All-Stars jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the Lewiston All-Stars Tuesday at Church Field, but were unable to hold on for the win, as Lewiston got the bats going late and came from behind to win 11-10 in the second game of a doubleheader.

Sam Nitcy was solid on the mound for Panhandle, but errors proved costly as Lewiston rallied in the seventh inning to take the lead for good. Jackson Olin had four RBIs and Derek Lang drove in three as Panhandle out-hit Lewiston on the day. Coach Hans Feyen had high praise for the relief pitching of Eddo Feyen and Jacob Clad against a very potent Lewiston lineup.

Lewiston won the first game of the doubleheader 5-0, as Ryan Schwartz and Markus Davis combined to hold Lewiston in check, but Panhandle couldn’t muster any offensive support. James Douglas hit a double for Panhandle.

Panhandle played Pullman in a double-header on Wednesday, concluding the All-Star season. See Friday’s Bee for the final results.
