Grace W. Callahan, 89
Our beloved mother, Grace W. Callahan, passed away on July 16, 2009, in North Idaho, where she has lived for the last four years.
Mom was born April 22, 1919, in Perth, Western Australia, and was the youngest of eight children. At the end of World War II, she married our father, Thomas J. Callahan, who was from New Jersey. He is now deceased.
As a war bride, she came to the United States with Dad and became a U.S. citizen. During Dad’s 20-year Navy career, they were stationed in many places around the world.
Mom is survived by three of her four children, Bill Callahan of Sand-point, Idaho, Patricia Gor-dinier of San Diego, Calif., and Kathleen Callahan of Athol, Idaho. She also leaves four grandchildren, including Tom Callahan and Bo Callahan of Sandpoint, Scott Gordinier and Lindsay Gordinier of San Diego. In addition, she had 10 great-grandchildren, including Joleen, Joseph, Nyla, David, Little Bo, Cloey, Riley, Maddie, Landon and Gavin.
Mom worked for many years as the secretary to the director of public works in National City, Calif. She took great pride in her job and was a very dedicated employee.
After retiring, she and Dad enjoyed camping throughout the United States in their motorhome. They were always the friendly couple that people liked to be around. Mom was very dedicated to her family and children. Family always came first for her. She was always up for a challenge. At 88 years of age, she was seen riding around Sandpoint with son, Bill, on the back of his motorcycle.
Her spirit and fierce determination in everything she did will be missed. We love you, Mom.
A celebration of Mom’s life and services are pending.
