Facility's costs don't add up for taxpayers

Bonner County voters are being asked to vote on a $6.6 million levy for a juvenile justice facility. The flyer recently sent to voters provided some information on the positive aspects of the levy. The flyer did not justify why a 32-bed facility is being requested when the average usage is about 12. Also the flyer did not give any estimate on the cost of operation, maintenance and staffing of the facility. Given the relatively low usage will there in fact be any cost savings over contracting with Kootenai County. It appears that this facility may actually be more expensive than current costs and will impose an undue additional tax burden on local property owners. It does not appear justifiable to vote for this levy.
