Farragut range is huge recreational asset

| June 1, 2009 9:00 PM

My son and I enjoy shooting as a sport. Our range in Sandpoint doesn’t give us an opportunity to shoot for distance. Several years ago we went to an event you put on for families at the firing range in Farragut State Park that taught kids (and adults), about shooting safety, tracking, and gave kids a chance to shoot small bore rifles, shotguns, bows and arrows. It was quite an experience. I remember there were hot dogs and hamburgers involved also. We were very impressed with the shooting range. Since that time we’ve acquired several rifles and a shotgun. Unfortunately there are few places where we can shoot safely.

We would love to come down to the range at Farragut State Park to shoot but learned that it continues to be closed. Shooting is a terrific sport that has a rich history and is enjoyed by young and old, men and women. The shooting range at Farragut is a huge recreational asset to our area. It offers a range that I believe extends to 1,000 yards or more. There isn’t any other range in the area that offers this shooting opportunity. I’m sure, if it were open, it would bring regular marksman and competition matches from around the Inland Northwest.

My son and I would really like to see the range opened up at least one day a week.
