Tonnemacher pitches a gem for Lakers

| June 3, 2009 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — Left-hander Cole Tonnemacher pitched a gem, striking out a whopping 15 batters and allowing only one earned run while going the distance to lead the Riley Creek Lakers to a 5-3 win over Coeur d’Alene in the nightcap of an American Legion doubleheader Tuesday night at War Memorial Field.

After beating the Loggers 9-5 in the first game, the offense would give Tonnemacher all of the support he would need by plating four runs in the first inning. It was a balanced offensive attack as seven different Lakers collected a hit.

The pitching performance stood in start contrast to the 9-5 win in the first game. David Dishong also threw an effective complete game, without striking out one batter. Tonnemacher was overpowering, mowing down the Loggers’ batting order all night.

Head coach Mike Givens, with the help of Zac Minor and Ricky Klontz, has the Lakers clicking right now.

The Lakers (4-2) are riding a four game win streak heading into Sunday’s doubleheader at Lewiston. The next home game will be on June 25, after a long spate of road games.
