Why wait in traffic? Shop in Coeur d'Alene

| June 3, 2009 9:00 PM

I have just returned from Sandpoint and it took an hour. It took an hour to get to Sandpoint this morning. Usually my commute is 20 minutes at the most from out here in Sagle. When you realize that the hour is spent totally in your car, not conducting business anywhere, you begin to realize what a complete and total waste of time it is. Somewhere I read that the delays would only last 15 minutes. Yeah, right.

I have decided that since it is taking me an hour to get to Sandpoint and an hour to get home, my time would be better spent going to Coeur d’Alene which is a little less than an hour from me. The gas is a whole lot cheaper, and there are a lot more stores to choose from to do my shopping. I have always tried to support the local businesses in Sandpoint, but until someone, if anyone has that kind of authority, chooses to suspend the rule that no one can do road work in the evening hours when there aren’t hundreds of people being held captive in hot cars, breathing in exhaust, that is the way my life will be going. I noticed today that there was not one vehicle at either of the stations just north of the Long Bridge. Is this a sign of the times? How much more business will be going somewhere else, how much more tax money?
