Baseball camp on tap in Sandpoint

| June 10, 2009 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — The North Idaho Baseball Camp has been brought to our youth by the American Legion for nearly a decade, and returns for the ninth year better than ever, from June 22-24 at War Memorial Field.

The camp will be divided into two age-appropriate sessions geared to provide the maximum benefit to each group. Morning sessions, for athletes ages 8-12, will run from 8-11:30 a.m., and afternoon sessions, for athletes ages 13-16, will run from noon to 3 p.m. each day.

Both sessions will feature professional and individualized instruction, bullpen work, fielding work, pitching and catching philosophies, feedback and evaluation and an NIBC T-shirt.

This is the chance to have your young player develop skills the right way, early in his career. A strong skill foundation is the key to success in later years.

The afternoon sessions, for older athletes, will include baseball fundamentals and higher level skill/strategy development. This is a great opportunity for the future high school star to be coached by college level staff.

One of the strongest camp staffs you’ll find anywhere in the region has been assembled, including former college coach Mike Givens, current college coach Curtiss Brown, long-time legion coach Rick Klontz, current college players Ricky Klontz and Zac Manor. Current Riley Creek Lakers will also be assisting.

All of this costs only $75 per player. Proceeds go directly to the local American Legion team to offset tournament costs. Entry forms are available at Centerfield Sports, Meyer’s,City Hall and the War Memorial Field concession stands.
