Pair injured in Monday crash

LACLEDE — Highway 2 was closed for a brief period of time Monday afternoon after a crash between an eastbound vehicle and tractor-trailor, causing minor injuries to the drivers of both vehicles, according to the Idaho State Police.

Amanda Giannone, 20, of Newport, Wash., was eastbound at 12:55 p.m. in a 1999 Mazda Protege her vehicle experienced mechanical problems and went off the south shoulder of Highway 2 near milepost 17.5 near Laclede. Giannone overcorrected and sideswiped a commercial tractor with a dump trailer driven by Michael Low, 46, of Priest River.

Giannone’s vehicle was split in two by the impact. Giannone was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The tractor-trailer slid off the north shoulder of the roadway and Low, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected out the passenger side window of the 2003 Freightliner.

Both drivers sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint, according to an ISP press release.
