Intersection is the wrong spot for a roundabout

| June 24, 2009 9:00 PM

I just read this morning that a roundabout has been slated for the intersection of Larch and Boyer. I have to ask — exactly what group of infrastructural geniuses have we elected to the council?

Let’s think it through — roundabouts are both prevalent and considered stupid around the rest of the world, are mocked as moronic inventions everywhere in America where they already do exist, are confusing and dangerous to navigate even after you are used to them, which almost no one around here is, and are remarkably expensive compared to — oh, say … a stop sign. Or even a stop light.

First the glaringly brilliant and constitutionally questionable decision to ban drive-throughs and the subsequent upkeep of private assets — arguably the single most anti-business decision in the history of the town — and now the decision for a roundabout at one of the busiest secondary intersections in town.  Woo-hoo!  Do these people just sit around thinking, “Hey! This would really help the town to suck!  Let’s do that!!!”?

I just pray that the next time we have elections we all learn from the last one.  The vast majority of people currently in office simply should not be there…

Maybe after five generations of spectatorship, I should pick up my family’s standard and run myself — I certainly couldn’t screw things up any worse!
