Plummer is professional, efficient and thoughtful
I was surprised and disappointed by David Keyes’ June 17 column which echoed the attacks and ramblings of a recent lunch companion. On June 18, Sports Editor Eric Plummer wrote a well-reasoned, passionate and directed response. I hope you have since found time to apologize to this extremely competent staff member. Perhaps you could take him to lunch.
I grew up in a small town with a similar rag. Local papers bind communities; they highlight the achievements of our youth, illuminate significant civic issues and announce local activities. National and international events are secondary to what is happening right here in Sandpoint. I’m sure most of your readers go elsewhere for comprehensive coverage of world and national affairs.
As a weekly contributor to The Bee in the winter, I have found Eric to be professional, efficient and thoughtful. He is always open to new ideas, always thanks me for submissions, and calls me with a reminder if I’m running late. There isn’t a baseball, volleyball, basketball or soccer game I’ve attended where Eric isn’t seen lurking around, camera and reporter’s notepad in hand. He knows every sport, player and coach, which is why he is able to write such cogent and meaningful reports.
I am often amazed that we have not lost this talented and dedicated news man to bigger things. I sincerely hope, for the sake of our community, that you aren’t helping to push him out the door.
