Sentencing set in graffiti case

SANDPOINT — A Sandpoint woman has pleaded guilty for her part in a graffiti spree in which numerous public buildings and private businesses were defaced.

Jennifer Lynn Sharples pleaded guilty to two counts of aiding and abetting felony malicious injury to property during her arraignment in 1st District Court on June 22, court records show.

A non-binding plea agreement in the case recommends four months in jail and a suspended prison sentence of three to five years.

Sharples would also be placed on probation for five years and made to pay restitution.

Sharples, 18, is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 24. The court is not required to adopt the sentencing recommendations.

Sharples was implicated in the wave of vandalism after Kyle Lee Jones was sentenced for spray painting insignias on Sandpoint City Hall, police vehicles, the Bonner County Courthouse, Lake Pend Oreille High School and a half-dozen local businesses.

Sharples was accused of aiding and abetting Jones’ crimes by taking him to a discount store to buy spray paint and driving him to locations where he could tag buildings and vehicles.

Jones, a 20-year-old Bonner County man, pleaded guilty to two counts of felony vandalism and was sentenced to serve two to four years in prison. Jurisdiction was retained, which means he could be released in six months.

A hearing to determine if Jones should be put on probation or made to serve his sentence is pending.
