LPOSD thanks residents for continued support

| March 2, 2009 8:00 PM

Dear community members:

On behalf of the students and staff of the Lake Pend Oreille School District, I would like to thank you for your show of support on Feb. 24. Passing a levy with close to 60 approval in this economy certainly says a great deal about our community and how they feel about our children and staff. As I walked the halls of our schools after the vote teachers told me how grateful they felt with your show of support.

There are certainly many individuals to thank and doing so risks leaving someone out. I certainly do not want to be guilty of this. However, there were significant groups that played a huge part in the success of this effort. Our parent volunteers at each school were absolutely stellar. They worked hard to deliver a clear message to their fellow parents. Our business community stepped up, both in terms of endorsements, and also in spreading the word about the election. I was welcomed by many community groups to share information and answer questions. Again, I am grateful for this opportunity. Our staff, by nature of the good work they do day to day, send a positive message year round.

As your superintendent, I am aware of the concerns expressed by parents and others regarding our school system. Many of you raised issues around state funding, program, and performance. I would say that I am proud of our students, staff, and their performance in the classroom, on the athletic fields, and in our community. However, I also know that our work is not completed until all students are able to reach their goals. In my mind, that means we can improve. We believe we have a very good school district, but we are intent upon getting better. That is the goal. Your continued support will help us in that effort.

Thank you very much.
