Political 'celebrities' don't deserve special treatment

| March 4, 2009 8:00 PM

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should be commended for her efforts to lessen any carbon imprint she may have. Kudos to her for not wasting the taxpayers’ money.

Nancy worked 97 days last year. If you account for the weekends, (96 days, God forbid we should expect our public servants to put in a long weekend in these troubled times), and you add the weekends and the days she worked, that leaves 172 days of paid vacation. But folks, it gets even better!

Nancy works three days a week when Congress is in session, then she is flown home to California in a 757, 200-seat airliner. You see she needs a big plane that can make the trip non-stop. Can’t she fly commercial like the rest of us? The cost to the taxpayers is $60,000 one-way, plus the trip back, that comes to $5,780,000 annually. Typical Democrat, while the rest of us are hurting, Nancy apparently feels a sense of entitlement.

Some say that political celebrities are treated differently than the rest of us. I don’t see any of that going on here! I think Nancy deserves a raise, beyond her $200,000-plus salary, for her sacrifices to cut expenses.
