COEUR d’ALENE — A pair of state championship-winning coaches will head up the North teams for the sixth annual Idaho High School All-Star Basketball Games, scheduled for Saturday at North Idaho College’s Christianson Gym.

Dale Poffenroth guided the Coeur d’Alene High girls to a repeat state title in February. Dave Cornelia coached the Lewiston boys to its first state title since 1948 last weekend.

The girls game is scheduled for 1 p.m., followed by the boys game at 3:30. Between games, there will be a 3-point shooting contest with the girls competing against the boys, as well as a slam-dunk contest.

Spencer Swerin is the lone Sandpoint player on the boys team, and Jenny Thomas is the lone Bulldog girl on the north team.

The game pits seniors from Districts 1 and 2 (North) vs. the rest of the state (South).

The South boys lead the series 3-2; the South girls lead 4-1.

Players were chosen by a selection committee of sports writers and broadcasters from throughout the state.

Admission to the game is $6 for adults, $4 for students and senior citizens and will be available at the door, sponsor locations and local area high schools.

The games are sponsored by Century 21-Beutler and Associates, The Coeur d’Alene Resort, Sports Cellar and the NIC Booster Club.
