Margie Jane Pierce, 76

Margie Jane Pierce, 76, of Sandpoint, Idaho, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Life Care Center of Sandpoint.

Margie was born Dec. 30, 1933, in Hope, Idaho, the daughter of Samuel Sherman Pierce and Edith Pearl (Wiltse) Pierce. She attended school in Hope through the eighth grade and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1952.

She served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 until 1964. She was stationed in Memphis, Tennessee, Corpus Christi, Texas and Honolulu, Hawaii. Following her discharge from the Navy she moved to Long Beach, Calif., where she worked in the VA Hospital until she was forced to retire do to a disability in 1976 at which time she moved back to Sandpoint.

Margie enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially fishing. Margie was a lifelong Dodger fan and Lakers fan she enjoyed watching their games on TV. Although Margie did not have any children of her own she considered her many nieces and nephews her children, and she always had a bed or meal for any of them who stopped by or needed a place to spend the night. She was a member of the First Church of God, and the American Legion, William D. Martin Post.

She is survived by two sisters, Nina Conn, Post Falls, Idaho, and Beverly Pennington, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; two brothers, Robert (Donna) Pierce, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and William Pierce, Post Falls, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Her parents, and three sisters, Sylvia P. Rhodes, Colleen D. Hunt and Nancy M. Singleton, preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Margie will be conducted at noon on Tuesday, March 17, at Coffelt Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Jon Pomeroy, officiating. Sandpoint area veterans will conduct military rites. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery, at Margie’s request there will be no graveside services.

A potluck will follow the services at the Sandpoint VFW Hall on Pine Street.
