Four Cats nab All-NSL honors
CLARK FORK — Clark Fork senior Jared Broggi and freshman Stillman Berkley each were named to the All North Star League boys team, and senior Mandy Martin and junior Shaina Gustafson were named to the girls team, as voted on recently by the league’s coaches.
Broggi used his exceptional size to dominate down low, but could also step out and hurt teams from the perimeter with a deft shooting touch.
“What didn’t he do,” said Cats coach Melvin Speelmon. “You expected a double-double every game.”
Berkley emerged as an offensive threat down the stretch, getting stronger and more confident as the season progressed. He made 7-9 three pointers in a game at regionals, showing the shooting touch that could make him a force in the league for years to come.
“He got more and more confident and hit a lot of shots in league play,” said Speelmon of his freshman guard.
Martin was the Cats most consistent inside player and top rebounder, which didn’t go unnoticed by the league coaches.
Gustafson was the Cats top scorer, and led the entire North Star League in steals, where it was commonplace for her to grab 6-8 thefts per game.
“She really ran the team well,” said Cats coach Dexter Vogel of Gustafson, who generated much of her offense off of steals and fast breaks. “She did a great job of handling the ball.”
