Driver's luck may run out next time

| March 21, 2009 9:00 PM

On Monday, March 11, at around 2:45 p.m., I witnessed this car with two people play "beat the train" at the 65-mph curve southbound on Highway 95, north of Dufort, east of the highway. The train was also southbound, two engines and multiple cars were to the left of you and me.

I noticed that you and me went pass the train and you approached the "S" street (unknown name) at the curve. I saw that you were going to turn onto the street so I started slowing, then I noticed instead of making a normal left turn, you proceeded to approach the street at an angle, like cutting the corner. The northbound traffic was of no concern.

I looked in my truck mirror and saw you slow down or maybe even stop but then proceeded across the tracks. If my memory serves me right, we had just finished having the snowstorm and the roads were still icy in areas. I said to myself, "The train is going to hit them‚" which was approximately 75 to 100 yards from your location. The train and its three headlights were very visible to me while looking in my mirror and I was about the same distance (southbound) from your location as you were from the train. I was praying that there would be no accident and I bet your friend in the passenger seat had their pants full.

I know you made it across the tracks by a thin thread but next time you might not beat the train. Good luck.
