SMS students holding raffle for Washington, D.C. trip

| March 23, 2009 9:00 PM

A group of Sandpoint Middle School eighth graders have canvassed North Idaho to come up with one of the region’s best raffles.

The 20 students have run concession stands, refereed soccer games, sold candy bars and have done everything they can think of during the past year to be able to spend Spring Break touring the White House and sightseeing in Washington, DC, and New York City.

Most of the students have raised the money for the trips themselves.

As the trip became more expensive than some had planned, the idea of the raffle emerged.

Some of the items include:

• A round of golf for two at the CDA Resort.

• A season pass to the Festival at Sandpoint.

• A POAC season pass.

• 2 loads of gravel delivered within 20 miles of Sagle.

• A round of golf for two at Stoneridge.

• Bike tune-ups, kayak rentals, massages, meals at most local restaurants,

• Two electric toothbrushes.

• Two tickets to Spamalot.

There are  total of 25 items ranging from $800 to $20.

Tickets are available from any eighth grader making the trip or at the Daily Bee office.

The drawing will be held Monday. The students will be selling tickets at SMS during lunch and after school through Friday.

As one student said: “Your odds of winning this raffle are better than the Lottery and we have cooler prizes.”
