Bulldogs fall to Bengals

LEWISTON — Although the Bulldogs were on the wrong end of 10-3 and 7-1 losses in an Inland Empire League doubleheader against perennial state power Lewiston Tuesday afternoon, Sandpoint head coach Chris Young was encouraged by what he saw from his team.

Young especially liked how his team responded in the second game, which he felt was a lot closer than the final score would indicate.

“We got better every time,” said Young, whose team is still relegated to practicing indoors. “Hammack was able to get his breaking ball and fastball across the plate, and for a hitting team like Lewiston, he held them to seven runs and kept them on their front feet.”

Bryce Olin had three hits in the second game to lead the Sandpoint (2-4) offense, followed by Ricky Lang with two and Cole Tonnemacher with one. Tonnemacher also had two RBIs in the first game, as he continues to be a run producer in the middle of the order.

Sandpoint travels to Lakeland on Thursday to get a look at their chief 4A competition for a state berth.
