Tonnemacher leads Bulldogs in win

| March 26, 2009 9:00 PM

RATHDRUM — Sandpoint coach Chris Young called Thursday’s 10-5 win over Lakelandt “the Cole Tonnemacher show,” and for good reason, as the lefty tossed a gem on the mound and crushed another home run at the plate.

Tonnemacher allowed just two hits in six strong innings, striking out seven and inducing a lot of groundouts from Lakeland. He also blasted his second home run of the season among his three hits, also driving in three runs to lead Sandpoint (3-4).

“He was focused today and stayed within himself,” said Young of Tonnemacher. “It’s a good launching point for us as we head to Tucson.”

Jake Semones added two hits and stole two bases to provide a spark at the top of the order for the Bulldogs, who banged out 10 hits as a team on the day.

The Bulldogs leave Wednesday to play in the 16 team Cherry Field tournament in Tucson, Ariz., featuring teams from Colorado, Arizona and California, including the No. 1 rated pre-season team in the country.
