PONDERAY — One of the county’s busiest stores is in the process of receiving a much-needed facelift.

The 157,000-square-foot Wal-Mart Super Center is two weeks into a three-month renovation project to modernize the store, said Wal-Mart public affairs manager Karianne Fallow.

By mid-June, the store will have new hardwood floors in several departments, new tiles and shelves, a fresh coat of paint and an improved bathroom with high-efficiency sinks and toilets.

“We’re really going to improve our customer shopping experience by creating a cleaner, more modern store,” Fallow added.

The remodel is part of the nation-wide upgrades Wal-Mart implements at all of its locations in five-to-seven year cycles, Fallow said.

Follow said the store will work to make all construction activities as unintrusive as possible, but recognizes the remodel is sure to rankle some longtime customers.

“Some people don’t like to shop when things are moved around or when it’s a little chaotic, but the outcome is going to be so much better,” she said. “While (customers) may have some temporary changes inside the store that they’re not used to, we hope they’ll be patient with us.”

The remodel does not include any structural changes and hours of operation will not be affected.
