Social workers are society's safety net

| March 30, 2009 9:00 PM

The idea of living a purpose-filled life has attracted much attention in recent years, but what does this actually mean? Ask a social worker and you’ll understand.

There are very special individuals in our communities who are driven to serve and help others, who take action to make an impact on society. They can be found in hospitals, schools, mental health clinics and group homes. They are social workers, trained professionals committed to a mission of great purpose and infinite possibilities for themselves and for their clients.

Social workers are society’s safety net, providing vital resources and support to those who need it most. Their compassion and skills drive them to this helping profession, which offers a wide range of opportunities to make a difference.

March is National Social Work Month, a time to celebrate the more than 600,000 social workers throughout the nation, many who work tirelessly in our own community in service to others. This year’s theme, “Social Work: Purpose & Possibility” highlights the unique characteristics of individuals who choose social work as a profession, and the many ways they contribute to our communities.

Bonner Community Hospice, along with the National Association of Social Workers proudly recognizes their social workers during National Social Work Month. Our social workers help individuals and families facing serious illness, death and grief to live with dignity and the highest degree of physical, emotional, social and spiritual comfort.  Our social workers are not only essential but perform their work with conviction and passion.  Brent Sisson, Pat Nilson and Patricia Gardner, we thank you for your service.
