Support of Constitution doesn't equal extremism

| May 2, 2009 9:00 PM

Last fall I wrote a letter to the editor about how a Palin effigy hung by a noose was considered a Halloween display, but the Obama effigy hung by a noose was considered a hate crime and the owners of it were hauled off to jail. This double standard in the treatment of the right versus the left is now being demonstrated by the Obama administration. Homeland Security has released a report advising local police agencies to keep an eye out for right-wing extremists.

Apparently we’re easy to spot because of the pro-life, NRA, Ron Paul and other right-winged bumper stickers on our cars. These things make us extremists.  But, what about the pro-abortion, Green Peace, PETA, impeach Bush and other left-winged bumper stickers? Apparently, DHS considers these things as innocent items of free speech.

This DHS report tries to link Second Amendment supporters to Timothy McVeigh and the Oklahoma City bombing. I support the Second Amendment; however, McVeigh was a terrorist who deserved the punishment he got.

I have never met or associated with a terrorist, nor will I ever advocate violence against my government. However, because I’m a pro-life, Christian supporter of the Second Amendment, my government now considers me an extremist.

What about Mr. Obama? His friend and mentor, Bill Ayers, is one of the founders of the Weather Underground Organization. Does this make our president an extremist with connections to a known terrorist organization?
