We need to protect our small farmers

| May 2, 2009 9:00 PM

I would like to see our country go back to being one of freedom.

Congressmen, not corporations should be writing the bills, they should deal with one subject at a time and anyone voting should be required to read every page. If the government can’t afford the bill, it should be voted down.

If it violates the Constitution, as do all of these “food safety” bills that mandate small farmers and gardeners “register” with any non-elected body and pay fees and fill out paperwork for doing so, the bill should be voted down. Regulation of huge agribusiness and factory farms that sell adulterated “food” nation — and worldwide should be regulated, first and foremost, to determine whether what they sell is even safe for human consumption or safe to the environment.

But small farms who sell locally and home gardeners who feed themselves, constitutionally need to be protected from these corporations, and left alone by government.
