Hardy leads Bulldogs in loss to Lake City

SANDPOINT — Ben Hardy notched an impressive win at No. 2 boys singles to lead Sandpoint, which lost 9-3 to Lake City in Inland Empire League tennis action Monday at Travers Park.

“Ben’s was the match of the day,” said Bulldogs coach Kent Anderson, calling it a strategic win. “Both of them had power serves, and in the third set Ben was able to keep it to his opponent’s backhand and come in to the net.”

Kevin Kirby and Mike Berg scored a decisive win at No. 2 boys doubles, and Sophia Meulenberg and Jesse Cobb won at No. 2 girls doubles for the Bulldogs. Anderson felt the match could have been much closer with many of the tightly-contested matches swinging Lake City’s way.

The Bulldogs host districts, starting Friday at 10 a.m. at Travers Park.
